My name is Travis Swanson and I'm a senior at Manhattan Christian High
School. I was fortunate to be able to participate in an internship
at Sound To Earth. This year my school offered a pilot program for
students to be involved in a work environment outside of school.
My interests have always been in the musical field and a friend suggested
that I contact Sound To Earth and visit with Bruce Weber. He agreed
to participate in the internship program. I arrived each day before
7 AM and worked until 9:30 and was able to work during school vacation
days. I started learning the steps of building a mandolin in resaw,
and continued through the various steps. By December of 2003, I'd
begun building my own mandolin, and completed it in 4 months with roughly
200 hours of labor put into it. I'd like to thank Bruce Weber and
everyone at the shop for mentoring me in the luthier process. It was
a very enjoyable experience. |
