Three years ago I played an Absaroka owned by a friend
of mine. I begged him to sell it to me but he would not let it go. I
remembered playing one a few months earlier at Dusty Strings in Seattle,
so I called my old friend John Calvin at Dusty Strings and made the deal.
I nervously tracked it on UPS website and finally it arrived at my home in
Ontario, California. I remain impressed by the workmanship, fullness of
tone, percussiveness, and beauty of the maple sides, neck, and back. I
sold my gorgeous 1989 Flatiron Performer (designed by Bruce Weber, I
believe) and have never regretted it as my "Little Red Tiger" sounds as
good as any F style mando I've ever played, including some Loars. In the
past I have played mando in the Mountain Valley String Band of Hot Springs
Arkansas, two different trios in Ventura, California; 'Bimbo, Geezer, and
the Rounder' and 'Ugly Men.' I currently play in a duo called 'Kenny and
Weezie' but it's a little hard to practice since I retired to Missouri and
Weezie stayed behind in Santa Monica. Love my Absaroka.
