I taught myself mandolin over 20 years ago, having moved over from the
violin. This custom Gallatin is my third instrument, and by far the most
beautiful in sound, ease of playing, and workmanship. As an amateur
luthier, I am very much impressed with the quality of the woods, joinery,
and finish of this instrument. The new competitor mandolin I checked out
while making decisions is of laughable quality compared to this! The good
folks at
Weber were infinitely patient with my inquiries about various options, and
the mandolin they delivered is exactly what I had envisioned.
With a daily workout, the Gallatin and its new partner the Sage octave
mandolin have been improving in tone and playability. I look forward to
the
maturing of these instruments in the decades to come.
The Gallatin I ordered has a cedar top, radiused fingerboard with an extra
dot on the side for the 12th fret, an armrest, a D-hole, an
intentionally-missing point on the body, and a matte finish. |
